A healthcare executive for 30 years, Steve Scogna has served as a Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer in both system and hospital settings.
In his current role, he is responsible for the management and operations of Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH), one of the few local independent healthcare systems, whose business strategy focuses on innovative partnerships that strengthen services that address community needs. While advancing the organization’s mission, vision and strategic priorities, Steve oversees all activities of the NCH system of care.
NCH is an award-winning organization, with nationally recognized physicians, state-of-the-art technology, and inpatient and outpatient services that provide care to more than 400,000 patients in Chicago’s northwest suburbs.
Steve joined NCH in 2011 as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He was responsible for Finance, Treasury, Revenue Cycle, Legal, Compliance and the implementation of operational improvement strategies.
Prior to joining NCH, Steve was CEO of Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, Ill. In this role, he was responsible for the Hospitals strategic and operational leadership. Steve also served as Provena Health System’s Vice President of Finance, providing overall direction for the system’s revenue cycle operations, including managed care contracting, third-party reimbursement, patient financial services, registration, financial assistance, and coding and documentation standardization.
Previously, Steve was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Frankford Health Care System, a member of the Jefferson Health System, Philadelphia.; Vice President, Managed Care for the Eastern Region of Catholic Health Initiatives; and Treasurer and Vice President of Finance for St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne, Pa.
Steve began his career as a senior consulting manager for Ernst & Young’s Philadelphia health care practice. He is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Steve has had Board of Trustee appointments in numerous health systems, hospitals, captive insurance companies and skilled nursing facilities. He is currently a member of the Illinois Health and Hospital Association Board of Trustees.
Philly born and bred, Steve graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Villanova University, and is a Certified Public Accountant. He moved with his family to the Chicago area from Philadelphia 15 years ago.
Steve is forever grateful to his first mentor, Sr. Clare Carty, OSF, former President and CEO, St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne, Pa., who taught him that nothing is more important than the community.
