Carlos A. Vargas serves as the Vice President of Human Resources and Talent Technology at Adventist HealthCare. Based in Gaithersburg, Md., Adventist HealthCare is a faith-based, integrated health-care delivery organization that cares for approximately 766,386 individuals a year. It includes Shady Grove Medical Center and Behavioral Health Services, White Oak Medical Center, Fort Washington Medical Center, Shady Grove Adventist Aquilino Cancer Center, Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation, Adventist Home Care Services, Adventist Medical Group, Shady Grove Radiology, Urgent Care Centers, The Lourie Center for Children’s Social & Emotional Wellness, LifeWork Strategies and other health and wellness services. Adventist HealthCare is one of the largest employers in Maryland, employing more than 5,500 staff. Adventist HealthCare also manages Howard University Hospital in Washington DC.
Vargas has served as Vice President of Human Resources and Talent Technology at Adventist HealthCare since 2015, focusing on recruitment optimization, occupational health, employee benefits and well-being earning and development, compensation and human resources information systems.
Vargas has been a human resources leader for more than 28 years. Prior to joining Adventist HealthCare, he served in a variety of leadership roles with the National Park Service, Montgomery County, Md., and City of Rockville governments. There, he served on various retirement boards, worked on employee relations and mediation, benefits administration, compensation and organizational development, and, with an affinity for new technologies and collaboration, helped to improve functionality systemwide. In addition to his current role, he was appointed the Chief Human Resources Officer for Howard University Hospital.
Vargas holds a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Psychology from the University of Maryland and an MBA from the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School.
Vargas is actively involved in his community, is an avid baseball fan and lives in Montgomery County with his wife Jodi and his two sons, Aaron, age 22 and Zachary, age 21.
