Debbie Oster

Throughout her career as a People and Culture professional, Debbie has led large cultural transformation programs for organizations like Canadian Tire, Coca-Cola and TELUS – helping them re-invent and re-skill their workplaces for the future.

As Vice-president of Talent Acquisition and Development at TELUS, Debbie leads and supports an incredibly talented team responsible for our end-to-end Human Capital Development portfolio, including attracting and retaining talented team members, ensuring our leadership development programs stretch leaders at all levels and creating and sustaining a high-performing culture of engaged team members. In fact, TELUS realized an overall team member engagement score of 87 per cent in 2020 – a year filled with unprecedented challenges due to COVID-19 – placing our company within the top 10 per cent of employers worldwide.

A strong believer in life-long learning, Debbie has lead a number of cultural initiatives including our well-establish national Work Styles program which helped enable our rapid response to the pandemic, safely transitioning 95 per cent of our workforce to fully work from home within five business days. In addition, Debbie and her team continuously championed our Amazing People Performance Development program launched to team members in 2019. The award-winning program supports an always-on coaching culture, shared sense of career ownership and more agile, ambitious and innovating goal setting. Importantly, it also encourages effective prioritization of work, enabling our leaders and team members to better navigate uncertainty and shifting priorities to achieve important personal and business goals.

Debbie holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and demonstrates TELUS’ community promise to give where we live by supporting the TELUS Friendly Future Foundation and the SHARE Food Bank.
