Scott Weingust is the leader of Stout’s Intellectual Property Valuation practice.
He has more than 23 years of experience providing consulting services to corporations, law firms, universities, and investment firms primarily in the areas of intellectual property valuation, damages, monetization, and management. Scott has been recognized as one of the world’s leading IP strategists as part of the 2017, 2018, and 2019 IAM Strategy 300. He has provided testimony as a damages and valuation expert in intellectual property-related litigation including having offered opinions at trial in Federal District Court. Scott has valued intellectual property and other intangible assets for a variety of purposes including: transaction advisory (licensing, buy/sell, joint ventures, mergers & acquisitions), tax strategy and compliance (related-party transactions, corporate reorganizations, trusts and estates), corporate strategic decision-making, use of intellectual property to attract capital (debt, equity, and litigation finance), financial reporting, litigation, regulatory compliance (Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, etc.), and bankruptcy, among others. He has been directly involved in intellectual property licensing negotiations and has developed many dynamic intellectual property pricing/valuation models for corporate licensing activities and investment decisions. Scott is currently an adjunct professor at DePaul University College of Law where he teaches a course on intellectual property valuation. He is a past Chair of the Valuation and Pricing Committee of the Licensing Executives Society (LES) and was formerly the Secretary of the Corporate IP Management Committee of the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO).
