Source · Engage · Lead · Innovate

These are the four keys themes that emerged from the discussions over two and a half days with hospital and health system HR Executives at the Healthcare HR Management Institute, which took place September 8th – 10th at the well-appointed Ritz-Carlton in Tysons Corner, VA .

Source: Faced with industry consolidation, competition for talent, multi-generational staff, rapidly changing technology and a shortage of skilled workers, several discussions centered around the pressing and ubiquitous challenge of sourcing and acquiring top talent in a timely fashion in a highly competitive landscape.

Engage: Joining the healthcare industry means making a meaningful impact in the lives of others. Yet the industry faces challenges including low engagement, high turnover and burnout. External factors aside, hospital and health systems have the power to ignite engagement and fuel productivity by enabling leaders to be team coaches, by creating a culture of inclusion, by viewing employees holistically and by creating an environment geared for success.

Lead: With four, in some cases, five generations of employees in the workforce, Healthcare HR Leaders are facing a huge transformation as it relates not only to the workforce, but also to how they themselves must show up as members of the C-Suite. They are also in a position to drive the creation of a high performance organization design that fosters the integration of workforce management, transformational leadership, and organization culture, and which aligns specifically to drive the business strategy and goals.

Innovate: Some of the most popular discussions focused on BI, BOTs and Business Acumen as attendees explored:

  • How to leverage technology tools and the principles of data science to improve predictive capabilities and to proactively diagnose and solve performance problems;
  • How to take a proactive approach to Robotic Process Automation to increase operational efficiencies and secure a talent advantage; and
  • How to influence decision-making and foster buy-in for unique initiatives and implementations

The enthusiasm and engagement of the HR Leaders in attendance was wonderful to see – thank you all so much for sharing your insights and experiences.  Next year’s Healthcare HR Management Institute will be taking place September 13th – 15th, 2020 at La Cantera Resort & Spa in San Antonio, TX.  If you would like to share some insights and experiences as a member of the Speaker Faculty, suggest topic areas for the agenda or join the waiting list for attendance, please contact Nas Panwar at npanwar@ipmionline.com
